Chotto Matte Opening In Toronto

One of the first commercial tiling projects we was fortunate to be involved in back in 2014 was the now world famous London eatery Chotto Matte.

Since then owner and founder Kurt Zdesar has gone on to open various other restaurants around the capital offering differing flavours and cuisines, and has also somehow managed to find the time to expand the nickel inspired chain in to Miami Beach, St Tropez and now opening imminently Chotto Matte Toronto!

The style and theme of each restaurant has remained consistent with the original in Soho, featuring urban designs, local inspired graffiti unique to each establishment and an ever growing and enlarging “Japanese stick” herringbone porcelain black and white tiled floor that gets bigger and bigger as each new Chotto opens worldwide.

The new Toronto location has unique design features to Chotto Matte such as shou sugi ban–  a blackened burnt timber that is used in Japan for buildings. The process involved in treating this wood gives a charcoaled texture that is soaked in oil to harden it. It will last 80 years in all weather conditions, beautiful lava stone boulders that will be handcrafted when they arrive by local artists and of course locally inspired street art and graffiti to add that raw gritty urban touch.

We wish Kurt and the team at Chotto all the very best with the new Toronto location and know that it will be just as successful as Soho where the journey started 5 years ago.
